Who we are
The Popular Inspiring and Relief Organisation (PIRO) is a registered NGO with the intention of Contributing to Realization of the Right to Development, Empowerment, Protection and Enhancement to Better Life.
PIRO exists to improve the lives and welfare of the people of Zanzibar by joining with and supplementing government efforts towards development. The organization aims to contribute to the realization of the right of all people in Zanzibar to development, empowerment, protection and enhancement of quality of life.

Our mission guides our operational focus. This involves promoting citizen participation, fostering transparent governance, improving public service delivery, and enhancing social accountability. PIRO achieves this through community empowerment, capacity building, and collaborative partnerships across various sectors in Zanzibar.

Our team reflects its aspiration for a just, equitable, and sustainable society. This vision drives PIRO to work towards a Zanzibar where all people have access to their social, economic, and democratic rights, enabling them to achieve their full potential and lead dignified lives.
Our Executive Team
Currently PIRO's team consists of 19 dedicated professionals with diverse expertise and experiences. The staff includes seven program personnel, a four-member finance team, and an executive committee comprising various specialists. Led by an Executive Director, the team is committed to continuous learning and professional development, ensuring effective program implementation and organizational management.
